F O U R - W E E K S!
Until the National Construction Code 2019 (NCC) is adopted! You can preview this document online now through the Building Codes website. It is important that everyone within the built environment & construction industry is aware of how the changes will affect them, before they come into action so you are not left with any nasty surprises.

One of the major changes links from the NCC Volume 2 to AS3959-2019 (Construction of buildings in bushfire prone areas) is in regards to yard maintenance and lawn grass length. There has previously been no standard in regards to this, but now the maximum length of lawn grass on a property is 15mm. Council will be strictly enforcing this so please be mindful of your role in this rule. Get the kids involved and keep those lawns neatly mowed to comply with the standard!

Growing up in Queensland means long, hot summers spent trying to keep cool. This might include lazing by a pool or the beach.

You may have heard on the news yesterday that two small children were found at the bottom of a pool in Morayfield yesterday. This is a truly terrifying situation for the family of these young children, and whilst the details around how this occurred are unknown, this should serve as a wake up call to anyone who hasn't gotten around to getting their pool fence inspected or finalised.

Here in the sunshine state, pools go perfectly in our suburban backyards. But, please ensure you complete your due diligence with swimming pools. If you are installing a fiberglass pool - you will need a temporary pool fence and this will need to be inspected by a building certifier. This approval will last for only 3 months in which you will need to have the final fence in place and compliant. The final fence will also require inspection and sign off by the certifier. The certifer will also issue a Form 17 for the pool & fence which will be submitted to the pool safety register. Concrete pools require the final fence inspection within 6 months of building approval.

You may also require regular pool safety certificates if you own an investment property that contains a pool.

These may seem costly but money means nothing compared to a life. Please remain safe and help each other ensure that situations like this can be prevented.
