CONSIDER A CAREER IN

BUILDING CERTIFICATION

… and let Fluid help you get there!

WHAT IS BUILDING CERTIFICATION?

Buildings in Queensland are required by law to be assessed against building assessment provisions to ensure they are structurally safe to use and comply to town planning codes.

Building certification is required for many residential and commercial structures such as homes, home extensions, offices, factories, (some) sheds, and swimming pools.

WHAT DOES A BUILDING SURVEYOR/CERTIFIER DO?

Building certifiers carry out building approvals/building certification as a Principal Certifying Authority. They are responsible for ensuring that the building work is in accordance with state legislative requirements, including:

  • approve plans for new or altered buildings
  • inspection of construction works at mandatory stages (such as slab, bond beam, frame and final stages in a typical home)
  • issue certificates of inspection to builder (following inspections)
  • give enforcement notices on work if required
  • provide final certification

WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED TO BE A CERTIFIER?

  • Attention to detail:  to identify any issues on plans and on-site inspections
  • Analysis: of site plans, floor plans and elevations
  • Team work: with clients, building designers, council and colleagues.
  • Patience: some projects can even take a few years to complete
  • Organised: you’ll need to juggle several projects at once!
  • Good time management: many projects can be time sensitive
  • Accountable: you will need to take responsibility for your tasks
  • Strong ethics: to ensure that laws and regulations are adhered to
  • Able to communicate: you’ll need to speak clearly to clients to ensure they understand the processes.
